Chodo Island
A place whose charm keeps visitors coming back!
Welcome to Chodo Island.
Chodo Island gets its name from the Chinese character for grass (“cho”) because of its abundant vegetation.
It is also known as Jodo Island, meaning “bird island,” due to the large number of seabirds found here.
The trail from Baramjae Pass to Sangsanbong Peak winds through peaceful mountain scenery, rewarding hikers with breathtaking views from the summit.
Sangsanbong Peak is a popular trekking destination included among Korea’s 100 best island hiking routes and has also been selected by a major company as one of its recommended completion routes.
Rising prominently from the center of the island, Sangsanbong Peak is renowned for its spectacular sunrises and the tidal phenomenon that reveals a path across the sea.
Chodo Island can be reached in approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes by ferry from Yeosu Coastal Ferry Terminal, with two departures daily.
Although Daedong Village was once the island’s main port, ferries from Yeosu now alternate between Uiseong Port and Daedong Port on odd- and even-numbered dates.
Upon arrival at Chodo Island’s ferry terminal, visitors can take the Chodo Happy Bus to the entrance of the Sangsanbong Peak hiking trail.

Chodo Island consists of three villages—Daedong, Jinmak, and Uiseong—and is a special destination where natural beauty and tranquility come together.
At Anmok Island, just off Jinmak Village, visitors can enjoy the unique experience of gathering seafood along a tidal path exposed at low tide.
The newly renovated Welcome Center, developed as part of the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project, provides a welcoming space for island residents and tourists to relax after their journey.
Chodo Island’s natural beauty speaks for itself, offering unforgettable experiences to everyone who visits.
