Diverse Events to Take Place Across the Yeosu World Expo Site and Yeosu's Islands from August 6 to 9
Yeosu City (Mayor Seo Young-hak) will host the “7th Island Day” from August 6 to 9 at the Yeosu World Expo Site, in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City.
Held under the theme “Recharging Romance, Islands,” the event aims to give pride and vitality to the residents who have long protected Korea’s islands, while offering citizens and tourists worn out by their busy daily lives a sense of romance and relaxation.
The opening ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m. on the 6th at the Expo Digital Gallery on the Yeosu World Expo Site. About 3,000 people are expected to attend, including Yeosu Mayor Seo Young-hak, Vice Minister of the Interior and Safety Kim Min-jae, Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City Administrative Vice Mayor Hwang Ki-yeon, National Assembly members Ju Chul-hyun and Jo Gye-won, and island residents.
The ceremony will include awards for individuals who have contributed to island development, along with a congratulatory performance by the Island Day promotional ambassadors. The venue will also host a range of exhibitions and hands-on programs, as well as a food zone where visitors can sample dishes made from island specialties by renowned chefs, including Oh Se-deuk and Im Hee-won.
From August 7 to 9, the ‘Baekseom-Baekgil’ walking program — inviting visitors to explore Yeosu’s scenic island trails — will take place on Geumodo, Gaedo, and Hwahwado. The islands will also host an island residents’ lunch show, an island experience caravan, and other programs bringing residents and visitors together.
On August 7, a live recording of ‘Park Myung-soo’s Radio Show’ will take place, and the ‘Romance Recharge Concert’ on August 8 will heat up the summer night with performances by Lee Chan-won, Ahn Sung-hoon, Musical Singers, and Im Ji-hoon.
The festival’s final day will open with the ‘Island Residents’ Trot Contest,’ followed by the closing ceremony and the ‘Catch! Teenieping Parade,’ bringing the four-day celebration to a close.
Mayor Seo Young-hak stated, “It is truly meaningful to host the 7th Island Day in Yeosu, home to 365 beautiful islands.” He added, “Through this event, I hope many people will experience the value of our islands and the unique charm of Yeosu, and that it will also draw greater interest in the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo opening this September.”
