Yeosu City to Begin Operating Urban Park Water Play Facilities in July

Children’s splash pools to operate through August 30; ground fountains through October 11
Yeosu City (Mayor Jung Gi-Myoung) announced that it will once again operate a variety of water play facilities this year, including children’s splash pools and ground fountains, so that citizens can stay cool and enjoy the summer in the city amid the intense seasonal heat.
The children’s splash pools at Seongsan Park and Yeomun Park will be open from July 11 to August 30. From July 11 to 26, the facilities will operate only on weekends and public holidays, and beginning July 28, they will return to regular operations on weekdays as well. In particular, this year the city has extended the operating period by two weeks and the daily operating hours by one hour for greater user convenience.
All children aged 3 to 12 may use the facilities free of charge. For the morning session (10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.), admission is available either by reservation through the Yeosu OK Integrated Reservation System or on a first-come, first-served basis on-site. The afternoon session (2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) will be operated on a first-come, first-served basis only.
Group reservations for kindergartens, daycare centers, and other organizations will be accepted starting July 6, with capacity for 150 children at Seongsan Park and 50 at Yeomun Park.
The facilities will close from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. each day for safety inspections. In addition, they will be closed every Monday and during rainy or other adverse weather conditions for facility maintenance and water tank cleaning. However, the facilities will operate as usual on the substitute holiday of August 17 and will close the following day instead.
In addition, seven ground fountains in parks—including those at Amgolmot Park and Gangnamjeong Park, home to the “Thinking Growth” experiential playgrounds, as well as Yi Sun-sin Park and Beach Culture Park—will operate from July 11 to October 11. Operating hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., running in cycles of 50 minutes on and 10 minutes off.
However, the ground fountains at Jukrim Neighborhood Park and Kkotgaram Park, which are adjacent to residential areas, will operate only until 8:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the fountain at Dongdong Park in Ansan-dong will be operated separately in accordance with the schedule of the i-Narae Playground program.
Cooling fog sprayers installed along park walking trails have been in operation since early June, while the artificial fountains at Yi Sun-sin Square and Namsan Park began operating in early May—one month earlier than last year—to provide a more pleasant environment for both citizens and tourists.
A city official stated, “As severe heat waves are expected this summer, we will do our utmost in facility management and safety inspections so that citizens can enjoy these water play facilities safely.”
