Full-scale rollout of five core civic action campaigns to accelerate preparations for welcoming visitors to the Island Expo
Yeosu City (Mayor Jung Gi-Myoung) announced that it resumed the “Yeosu Renaissance: Five Civic Action Movements for All” campaign in June, after it was temporarily suspended during the 9th Nationwide Simultaneous Local Elections, and has launched a citywide civic action movement to support the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.
Ahead of the Island Expo, the city is encouraging voluntary citizen participation centered on five key civic practices: kindness, order, cleanliness, service, and environmental stewardship.
During June’s designated Day of Action, the civic movement headquarters in Yeosu’s 27 eup, myeon, and dong districts took the lead, joined by local community groups, related organizations, and residents, in carrying out cleanup activities and public awareness campaigns in everyday community spaces such as tourist attractions, traditional markets, and coastal areas, helping strengthen preparations for welcoming visitors.
In particular, participants carried out activities tailored to local conditions in their respective areas, taking the lead in creating a clean and friendly urban environment while promoting a more mature civic culture. They also carried out promotional activities for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo by leveraging local networks that included headquarters members and social organizations.
Looking ahead, Yeosu City plans to continue operating designated Days of Action and carrying out citizen-led welcome campaigns for tourists during the Island Expo period. Through these efforts, the city aims to foster a mature civic culture led by citizens and enhance its competitiveness as a host city for an international event.
A city official stated, “This designated Day of Action was a meaningful occasion in which citizens came together to take the lead in creating a clean and friendly urban environment.” The official added, “We will continue this civic movement so that the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo can be held successfully.”
