- Fostering a childbirth-friendly environment... Full-scale strengthening of public postpartum care infrastructure
Yeosu City announced that it held the opening ceremony for the 8th Jeollanam-do designated public postpartum care center, located at Yeul Hospital, today (the 20th).
The event was attended by about 30 people, including Hwang Gi-yeon, Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs of Jeollanam-do, Vice Mayor Jeong Hyeon-gu of Yeosu City, as well as provincial and city council members and related officials. The ceremony proceeded with an opening declaration, the introduction of guests, a progress report, commemorative remarks, and congratulatory speeches, followed by a tour of major facilities such as the mothers' rooms and program rooms.
The 8th Jeollanam-do designated public postpartum care center was promoted to improve the childbirth environment and expand public health infrastructure. The project began in earnest after Yeul Hospital was finally selected through the 2023 Jeollanam-do Public Postpartum Care Center Competition Project, and its construction was completed last December.
The 8th public postpartum care center is equipped with various amenities, including 15 mothers' rooms, a newborns' room, and program rooms. It has also established an infection prevention system, including the installation of an elevator exclusively for mothers and air showers. Additionally, individual sitz baths are provided in the mothers' rooms to offer a safe and pleasant postpartum care environment.
The usage fee is KRW 800,000 per week, which is about half the cost of private postpartum care centers. Basic livelihood security recipients and mothers giving birth to their second child or more can receive up to a 70% fee reduction.
Reservations can be made on a first-come, first-served basis through the 'Jeonnam i-Talk' website. Applications must be submitted under the mother's own name, and duplicate reservations with other public postpartum care centers in Jeonnam are not permitted.
A city official stated, "We will promote policies that citizens can actually feel by building a comprehensive support system from pregnancy to childbirth and child-rearing," adding, "We will make every effort to ensure it becomes the most comfortable resting space for mothers."
Yeosu City expects the public postpartum care center to establish itself as a regional hub facility supporting mothers' postpartum recovery and newborn care.
