Detailed Description
The name of the Heungguksa Temple in Yeongchwisan Mountain means a wish for the prosperity of the nation. To be specific, it means 'if the temple prospers, the nation will do, and if the temple fails, the nation will do, too'. The Yeongchwisan Mountain is near the Yeosu National Industrial Complex, and the monk Jinul built the temple in 1195. There are countless cultural assets like the main building Daewungjeon, Wontongjeon, Palsangjeon, and also many other things. The Daewungjeon is the Treasure No. 396 and has many traditional style doors that can open. Also the Hubultaeng painting of the main building is the Treasure No. 578. The Heungguksa is the only temple that had the navy monk forces during the Imjin War. There were 300 monks that had the navy training.
